"Puluj" is a strong and functional skeleton knife
Ivan Pavlovich Puluj, an outstanding Ukrainian scientist, was born on February 2, 1845 in the city of Hrymailov, Ternopil Oblast. His life and scientific path expresses his greatness and significance not only for Ukraine, but also for the whole world.
Puluj became the first among his relatives to be famous for physics and electrical engineering, whose achievements went far beyond the borders of his homeland. His contribution to the development of science and technology is extremely significant, and his name has become a symbol of the greatness of the Ukrainian people.
Ivan Puluj graduated from the Ternopil Gymnasium with honors and continued his education at the theology and philosophy faculties of the University of Vienna. In 1872-1874, he worked as a scientist in the physics laboratory of Professor von Lang and was an associate professor at the University of Vienna. And in 1875, as an excellent student of the Austrian Ministry of Education, he increased his professional knowledge at the University of Strasbourg under the guidance of Professor August Kundt.
However, the most outstanding achievement of Ivan Puluj was his inventive genius, which was emphasized in his work with X-rays. He became the first person in the world to invent this unique type of radiation, opening new horizons for science and medicine.

Thanks to Puluj, it became possible to see these mysterious X-rays.
Using this lamp, Ivan Puluj created images that were later called X-rays. But in 1895, a German physicist was the first to publish an article about these phenomena. Here’s how Ivan Puluj reacted, according to his son’s recollections: "My father read the news about Röntgen's discovery while still in bed. He jumped up, grabbed his head with both hands, and kept exclaiming: 'My lamp! My lamp!'"
Puluj sent Röntgen a letter requesting to acknowledge that his lamp had been used in the experiments. He never received a reply. When Röntgen was awarded the Nobel Prize, he avoided explaining the nature of his discovery. In his will, he ordered all his records related to X-rays to be destroyed — and they were.
In addition, it’s worth noting that Puluj also developed a refrigeration unit (a freezer), which proved invaluable beyond just food storage. This invention contributed to food security and gave people access to affordable, high-quality products throughout the year.
Ivan Pavlovych Puluj is a symbol of pride and strength in Ukrainian science. His achievements reflect the powerful potential and talent of the Ukrainian people, and his inventions remain an enduring contribution to Ukrainian heritage.
