Sergey Pavlovich Korolov was born on January 12, 1907 in Zhytomyr in a family of teachers. From the age of ten, he was raised by his stepfather, who was a mechanical engineer by profession.

At the age of 17, Serhiy Korolov designed his first glider, for which he took out many books, some of which he mastered in the original German language. It was a "K-5 engineless aircraft." Later, Korolov studied at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the Moscow Higher Technical School. While studying in Moscow, he developed models of the Koktebel and Red Star planners, as well as the SC-4 light aircraft designed to achieve a record flight range.

 On June 27, 1938, Serhiy Korolova seized Stalin's repressive machine. He was arrested on charges of "undermining state industry." The court sentenced him to ten years in labor camps, with an additional five years of probation and confiscation of property. The place of punishment is Kolyma. Thus, Serhii Korolov found himself in the Maldyak mine, doing some gold mining. The legendary designer was brutally abused by guards and criminals, worked in hard labor conditions, fell ill with scurvy and only miraculously managed to survive.

 The launch of the first artificial Earth satellite on October 4, 1957 marked the beginning of a new era in the history of mankind — the era of active space exploration. of varying scientific importance, this satellite has considerable political influence. Its launch was celebrated all over the world, as the signal it emitted was loved by radio amateurs on all continents.

Due to the high level of secrecy, Serhii Korolov was not awarded the highest scientific award of the planet. When the Nobel Prize committee asked the Soviet leadership to name the designer of the first artificial Earth satellite, Nikita Khrushchev replied that the developer of this new technology was the entire people of the USSR, and not an individual. A similar situation with the Nobel Prize was repeated after the launch of the first man into space, Yuri Gagarin. In less than 10 years of military space, Serhiy Korolov reaches such a height that his achieved records have not been broken.

1964 — the first multi-seater ship of the Voskhod series was put into orbit, with three cosmonauts on board.

1965 — Oleksiy Leonov became the first cosmonaut to enter outer space from the Voskhod-2 ship.

1965 - the Venus-2 spacecraft made the first flight to a planet in the Solar System.

Serhiy Korolov's daughter recalls: "In our family, the word "Ukraine" was always pronounced with special trepidation and deep love. My father spent the first 24 years of his life in Ukraine, almost half of his life. He sincerely loved this land, admired Ukrainian music and language. It was undeniable. "I look at the sky" and "Roaring and moaning Dnieper is wide" were favorite songs for both grandmother and father."

When Korolov organized the launch of the rocket with the first Ukrainian cosmonaut Pavel Popovych on board, Popovych sang the Chief Designer's favorite song "I'm looking at the sky..." from space.
