What is a firestarter and how does it work?
The firestarter is a ferrocerium rod made from rare-earth metal alloy. When scraped with a hard object — like the spine of a knife — it creates sparks with temperatures up to 3000°C. That’s more than enough to ignite tinder, dry grass, cotton, or wood shavings.

How to use the firestarter
- Prepare tinder (cotton, dry bark, hay).
- If using for the first time, remove the protective transport coating from the rod.
- Shave a bit of ferrocerium dust using the scraper or knife spine.
- Hold the scraper or knife at a 45° angle and strike firmly down the rod.
- Direct the sparks toward the tinder — fire will ignite within seconds.
